Top 5 Sandbox-like Games Performance in Africa Q3 2022

In the third quarter of 2022, the top sandbox-like games in Africa experienced diverse trends in weekly downloads, revenue, and active users. Here, we break down the performance of the leading five games: Roblox, Minecraft, IMVU: 3D Avatar Creator & Chat, PK XD: Fun, friends & games, and ZEPETO: Avatar, Connect & Live.

Roblox saw its weekly revenue peak at around $95K in mid-July, later dropping to approximately $65K in late September. Weekly downloads fluctuated, starting at 116K and ending the quarter at about 72K. Active users showed a consistent increase from 2.4M to nearly 2.7M by the end of the quarter.

Minecraft experienced relatively stable weekly revenue, hovering around $8K to $12K. Downloads were modest, ranging from around 900 to 1.3K. Active users maintained a steady presence, beginning at 91K and closing the quarter at approximately 93K.

IMVU: 3D Avatar Creator & Chat displayed varied revenue trends, peaking at $3.1K in the final week of September. Downloads surged to 8.5K in early August before stabilizing around 6.8K. Active users saw a growth trend, starting from 23.5K and reaching nearly 27.5K by the end of September.

PK XD: Fun, friends & games had a steady revenue stream, peaking at around $1.4K at the end of September. Weekly downloads were consistent, averaging around 19K, with a slight dip to 17K in the last week. Active users remained robust, fluctuating between 370K and 420K.

ZEPETO: Avatar, Connect & Live showed a decline in revenue, dropping from $1K to around $630. Downloads followed a similar trend, decreasing from 42K to 27K. Active users also saw a slight decline from 319K to approximately 295K.
